Imagine the sound of running water, soft silky bubbles forming in the center of a beautifully restored claw foot tub, oversized, fluffy crisp white bath sheets rolled neatly in a basket, and a subtle hint of lavender lingering throughout the room. The sound of the ocean tides hitting the rocks below sends you deep into a meditated state. A picture perfect holiday.
Sound a little pricey? Here are some great tips to bring the spa retreat to your home and do it on a budget.
Creating a spa retreat in your own bathroom can be cost effective and fun. To get the crisp clean feel of a holiday getaway, roll on a French crème or soft chenille ivory-colored paint to the walls.
- Create your theme by adding wall art like a topiary picture lends a soft, quiet feel to the room. Place a few candles around the perimeter of the bathtub and atop the vanity.
- Put greenery in mosaic vases, choose a pale green or soft yellow mosaic to strengthen the theme you are creating. Add a white lily to your greenery for a soothing, meditative atmosphere.
- Add a large shag-style rug, in ivory crème colors. A few plump bath sheets in light pale green or a soft crème yellow rolled tightly into a basket adds an elegant touch.
- If you have a window, dress it with simple sheers in classic ivory color to complement the wall color.
- Sparkling glass accessories are perfect, use clear jars to house cotton swabs. Fill other jars with pastel, decorative hand soaps and beaded bath salts.
- Make your own Tea Bath Bags, and indulge yourself in an aromatic healthy relaxing soak.
Citrus leaves and dried peel from lemons and oranges make a sweet teabath that aids in the elimination of toxins. Simply add a tablespoon or so of each into a square muslin sachet, tie shut with a ribbon and toss into a warm bath.
Dried rose petals and dried lavender flowers can produce the ultimate in relaxation. Two tablespoons of each in your tea bag soothes a tired mind.
Don't forget to spoil yourself with a new, crisp white, terrycloth bathrobe.
